Characteristics of Sponges
Sponges are pore-bearing animals that live in both fresh water and salt water. Unlike most other invertebrates, sponges lack any type of body symmetry. Although sponges differ considerably in size and appearance, they share several common characteristics.
Characteristics of Sponges
- A hollow body.
- Cells are not specialized into tissues.
- Water and materials move into the body through numerous openings called pores.
- Waste moves out of the body through a large opening at the top of the sponge.
