The Japanese Spider Crab is considered the largest Arthropod known today. They are believed to have a lifespan of around 100 years and make their home at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean around Japan. Their main food is dead animals and shellfish. They can grow up to 20kg (44lbs) and live at depths of 150m to 800m. They are a popular food item which has diminished their numbers siginificantly and there is an effort to try to protect them so that they can grow in population.
