Types of Cells

Cells can be divided into two distinct types. One group, the prokaryote cells, do not have a true nucleus and lack membrane-bound structures. The second group, the eukaryote cells, have both a nucleus and membrane-bound structures. Only bacteria have prokaryotic cells. All other organisms have eukaryotic cells.

There are also differences between plant and animal cells.

Plant Cell:

  • Has cell membrane and cell wall.
  • Has large vacuoles.
  • Contains chlorophyll.

Animal Cell:

  • Has cell membrane only.
  • Has small vacuoles.
  • Lacks chlorophyll.
